Australia’s National Family History Week is on again, so grab your diary and note 27th July through until 5th August 2012 in it. As family history and genealogy is fast becoming one of the most popular hobbies around, with 250,000 Australians who are members of family history related organisations, National Family History Week has a broad appeal right across Australia. You could use this opportunity to either expand your own family history knowledge, or share the passion by introducing someone else to it.

National Family History Week is an initiative of AFFHO (Australasian Federation of Family History Organisations), and this popular initiative has received support from some of Australia’s leading government and non-government organisations. Current sponsors and supporters include:

National Archives Australia
FamilySearch.org
Public Record Office Victoria
FindMyPast.com
Ancestry.com.au

During the week there are events which are held across the country that focus on genealogy, family history, heraldry and related subjects including family reunions, seminars, talks, open days, history walks, book launches, film evening and expos.

You can find full details about National Family History Week (including links to the events in each State), on the National Family History Week website. And if you’re a Facebooker, be sure to stay up to date with the latest by following them on Facebook.
