Saving Memories Forever is an app that you can use on your computer and mobile device (iOS or Android), which allows you to record the family stories, which gives history a voice.
I first came across them when they were announced as the winner of the Developer Challenge at RootsTech in 2014. You can read more about that, and their beginnings here.
I received the the following email from Harvey Baker, the creator of Saving Memories Forever this week, and wanted to share his sad news with you …
“Thank you for your support of Saving Memories Forever over the past years. We will be closing the site at the end of May. For those who have recordings on the site, it is easy to download and save your stories to your computer. Please read below to see how to do this. If you need additional support please send us an e-mail to us and we will work with you.
The reason for Saving Memories Forever was simple. As future generations research their family history the stories recorded would be invaluable. It was always our thought that hearing the voice of a relative telling a story added a richness to a life documented in pieces of paper and photographs.
We have spent the past year looking for someone to take over the mission but have been unable to find someone suitable.
Rest assured that your stories are still available on the website. For premium members, you can do this from your computer. After you have signed on to the website go to the tab at the top that says My Account. Click and scroll to the bottom of the popup menu and click on export files. Follow the directions and you will be able to download all of your stories to your computer. If you have forgotten your password, I can reset it for you through a request to us. For those that have a free membership, I will upgrade your membership to allow you to download your stories on request. Once I have done this I will send you a note that you are a premium member and you can download your files.
Saving Memories Forever was a labor of love, an attempt to have everyone leave a lasting legacy for their families. If you know someone who might be interested in taking over the website and apps, please have them contact me. Thank you once again for your interest and support.
