We were delighted to learn recently that the Society of Genealogist’s “prestigious Prince Michael of Kent Award has been accorded to Cyndi Ingle for services to genealogy for many years of dedication with Cyndi’s List“.

This is a mighty prestigious award indeed. In fact, the Prince of Michael Of Kent Award has only been awarded 5 times since 2000 (6 now with Cyndi), and amongst those you have big names like FreeBMD and the Genealogical Society of Utah (now FamilySearch).

But in my option this award is more than worthy. Cyndi’s List is one of THE go-to-places for genealogy. One of the MUST-USE websites, and yet I’m still surprised by the number of people who don’t use it.

For those who aren’t familiar with her site, Cyndi’s List is a portal website that contains over 332,000 links, all grouped into relevant categories making our life so much easier, and it’s all free. And this has been the work of just one woman, Cyndi Ingle over the past 20 years.

Cyndi is one of the guest speakers on Unlock the Past’s upcoming Alaskan cruise, and a representative from the Society of Genealogists will be cruising as well, so the UTP cruise will be the host event for the actual Award presentation. Alaskan cruisers – don’t miss this exciting and well deserved presentation ceremony – Day 6 at 8pm!
