The news on the genie grapevine today is that the next season of Australia’s version of Who Do You Think You Are? starts soon. And by soon I mean Tuesday, 19 May 2020 at 7.30pm on SBS.
Celebrated personalities from the world of music, politics, sport, television and film join the new season. So who will we see on Who Do Think You Are? Australia season 11? Here they are …
- Bert Newton – broadcasting legend
- Cameron Daddo – actor, musician and presenter
- Denise Scott – stand-up comedian, actor, television and radio presenter
- Kat Stewart – actress
- Julie Bishop – former politician
- Lisa Curry – former Australian swimmer and author
- Lisa Wilkinson – TV presenter
- Troy Cassar-Daley – country music star
Using the usual WDYTYA style, you’ll see a bunch of high-profile Australians discovering their family history through global archives to piece together their family trees, and through these journeys you get a rare insight into their lives behind the camera.
As always, there will be tears, laughter, shocking discoveries, emotional revelations and intriguing surprises. One of the cast discovers the father they never knew was a true patriot who devoted his life to his country, while another traces lost German roots. One learns about heroic wartime adventures and another gets insights into their Indigenous history as these renowned Australians travel the world to explore their family trees and delve back centuries into their ancestry.
SBS Head of Commercial and Production, Chris Irvine, said:
“The enduring appeal of Who Do You Think You Are? is set to continue as SBS broadcasts a host of names in season 11, which are guaranteed to move and entertain audiences. This season spans centuries of history and crosses continents to unearth extraordinary genealogical revelations for some of the country’s most beloved Australians. These stories demonstrate how Australians have come to be the people we are today.”
So note it on your calendar folks, Tuesday, 19 May 2020, 7.30pm, SBS.
For those who also enjoyed “Every Family Has a Secret“, the good news is that this will also be back in 2020 for season 2. I have no further details on this yet, so will just say – more to come in due course.
Fantastic news
My source to start my research of my ancestors started at a family gathering when my younger brother Gary asked us to listen to his wife’s Lyn’s discovery when results at the Lutwyche Cemetery revealed a vacant grave beside my great grandmother’s grave Mini Simpson which stated on a head stone that my great grand father on my father’s side is buried somewhere [ “down there” ] in the Benarkin Cemetery near Blackbutt in the Brisbane Valley. Strange ! you ask Nicholas Malebranche [1638-1715 @ 77years Paris] . This prompted me to write to the Salvation Army Headquarters in Sydney, and when I had almost put my search to the back of my mind, I got a reply with a copy of the NURSE’S NOTES that survived from the floods of the Newstead Hostel for Young Girls which only asked more questions than answers; but revealed my grand father as : Mr Arthur Armstrong of ‘ANSL’ , but might well as be ‘ANSI’, a computer enclitic code,. My grandfather’s name was not on my father’s, Mr Michael {Mick}, birth certificate; it was left vacant until he applied for a Passport to travel around the world to calm the stress of his wife’s death from breast cancer in 1968 , thereby he learnt who he is , after 55 years, Mr Arthur Henry Armstrong whereas he was raised as Mick Simpson not knowing that his sister is his mother!!! A truth that will be revealed by a death bed letter written by his mother Ida Sarah Simpson before she died and handed to her eldest sister with the promise that this letter will be read after her sister dies ; but she is now 97 and going strong! There have been Armstrongs on the moon, Eureka,Little Big Horn, speaker of the QLD Parliament seating in Toowoomba who may have voted for womens’ right to vote in Qld under pressure to reveal a possible liaison, a British engineering magnate with car yards in Brisbane, nurses on the front line in WW1 and on the Titanic as well as a body under the control by Legacy London WW1 “KIA”.The address of my grand mother at the time of birth is where the Brisbane Fire Brigade now stands at the north end of the Story Bridge ; so my question is : Has this property 82 Bowen Terrace been leased to the Qld Government since I have hit a wall of silence?
