St Patrick’s Day is on Sunday 17 March, so whether you’re wanting to search for your Irish roots using records, or see what Irish connections you can find through DNA testing, there’s something for all this week.

Ancestry are giving users the opportunity to search for those Irish lines you’ve been putting aside, by giving you free access to all 100 million Irish records on their site, through until Sunday, 11.59pm, 17th March 2019.

There’s a huge variety of records they have in their collection. You’ll find marriage records, emigration and Catholic records. Armorial and heraldic records, as well as directories. There’s some school records as well as topographical dictionaries. There’s also visitations and quite a number of family histories … and that’s just some of the HUGE, LONG, LISTING which you can view here.

Ts&Cs: To view these records you will need to register for free at with your name and email address. They will then send you a username and password. After the free access period ends, you will only be able to view the records in the featured collection using an paid membership.

How Irish are you? Find out with a DNA test, and then use it to find your Irish ‘cousins’ as well. There’s some really good prices for DNA kits on now, so now is a good time to buy, or stock up. But be quick they’re only on sale for the week.
