5th cruise - mapThe countdown is definitely on for those who are attending (not to mention those organising) the 4th Unlock the Past Cruise which is on in February 2014, but meanwhile plans for future cruises are well underway, with the Unlock the Past Cruise organisers advising that their 5th Unlock the Past Cruise is now open for bookings.

This one will be vastly different from all previous cruises, firstly because it is actually a UK based cruise, as opposed to one that leaves from Australia. It will also be using a different cruise line, and a much smaller ship to the enormous cruise ships that they’ve had for the first 4 cruises. These aren’t dominant factors except that it is likely to book out very quickly, so if you are interested in going, don’t delay.

So firstly the basic details:

Date: 10 nights 19-29 July 2014

Ship: Marco Polo (Cruise & Maritime Voyages)

Cost: from £1199 (approx AU$2067) twin share (see table for full price list)

Where: starts at Tilbury, London
– Invergordon, Scotland
– Kirkwall, Orkney Islands
– Stornoway, Outer Hebrides
– Tobermory, Isle of Mull
– Dublin, Ireland
– St Mary’s, Isles of Scilly
– St Peter Port, Guernsey
– Honfleur, France
– returns to Tilbury, London

If you book on this cruise, apart from all the touristing around the UK that you’ll be able to do thanks to an HUGE range of shore tours, you’ll have a fabulous time with the genealogy conference onboard.

While the program is still being worked out, it is expected to offer about 40 topics in 25 sessions (sometimes two streams with run in parallel). The talks will primarily be on sea days, as well as some evening slots.

A much smaller ship than those previous used for Unlock the Past Cruises having a maximum capacity of 800 passengers, still it has all the regular features of a cruise ship with restaurants, bars, sports facilities, shops, lounges and of course the pools etc.,  More details about the Marco Polo ship can be found here.

The cost includes your cabin for the 10 nights which does get cleaned and the beds made regularly which is always nice, the cost of all meals and drinks (excluding bars and specialty restaurants), onboard entertainment, and the genealogy conference. Please note the shore tours are an extra cost.

Further details about this cruise (including the speakers) will be announced when details are finalised.

Genealogy + Cruising + Sightseeing around the UK all on the one package
sounds too good to be true, it’s not!
