Family Tree Maker is one of the most popular genealogy software programs around. Now owned by Ancestry.com, Family Tree Maker has been around since the late 1980s, and it’s popularity is such that people most people who have does even a little family history, have heard of Family Tree Maker.
From a genealogy reseller point of view, the one disappointing thing (and this is my own personal opinion) is that Family Tree Maker does not have a demo which allows people download and play with it to try it out before buying [although they did with an earlier version]. Every other genealogy program that we sell, such as Ancestral Quest, Family Historian, iFamily for Leopard, Legacy Family Tree, Reunion, RootsMagic, and The Master Genealogist does.
Anyway found a collection of Family Tree Maker tutorial videos on YouTube. For users of Family Tree Maker, you can use these to help you with your program. For those of you who don’t, check them out, as it’s a great way to see just what the program is like, and how it works.
In these first four video tutorials you’ll learn the basics of Family Tree Maker 2012, how to create a tree, how to add to your tree, and about using maps.

My wife and I did extensive family research and have even done research from genealogy files in the Chech Republic going back to the late 1600s. I am just now compelling a ftm for the Podhola family. I expect to complete it in one year.
