Well it has been a loooong time coming, but news today from Wholly Genes (the publishers) is that The Master Genealogist (TMG) v8 is now available in the form of a free public beta test that will expire in 30 days.
They advise that TMG v8 is in the final stages of testing and it is believed to be stable and functional in all of its major features. However, some minor issues remain, and by releasing this public beta they hope to accomplish two things:
- Make reporting functions available to all those for whom v7 reports have become non-functional because of an upgrade to a 64-bit operating system.
- Enlist your help in identifying and fixing any remaining issues before the full public release.
For full details about TMG v8 beta, the new features, the cautions, as well as the upgrade process if you have and earlier version of TMG you can read about it on the Wholly Genes website.
The Master Genealogist (TMG) has long been regarded by many as THE program for recording your family history. One of its strengths is its ability for the user to analyse every piece of information in amazing detail, the other is its customisability in charting which is second-to-none.
If you’d like to take part in the TMG v8 Public Beta Test, you can do so by visiting here, (scroll right to the bottom, and click I agree), but please read the instruction page carefully FIRST.

I suggest they NOT ‘scroll right to the bottom’ – but read carefully the instructions for installing v8 and the strict beta guidelines before clicking ‘I Agree’.

Virginia, you are so correct.
I never meant for people to skip over the instructions part and go straight to the installation, and have now reworded my blog a little to reflect that. Many thanks for bringing this to my attention.
