South Australia’s History Week has grown from being a week long celebration to now encompass a full month. That month being May 1-31.

This change reflects the success of the program, and has been made possible by a grant of funds from the SA Government to mark the 175th anniversary of the foundation of the Province of South Australia.

And that’s not the only change,  HistorySA have also renamed the event to About Time: South Australia’s History Festival.

This year’s program is the biggest yet. with over 500 events, from over 400 organisers covering all parts of the state. These groups and organisations have spent time planning, researching and presenting events that showcase our shared history.

Those presenting events range from community museums, historical societies, cultural and community groups, cemeteries, gardens, businesses, service organisations and churches to libraries, local government, state government agencies and state collecting institutions … I guarantee that there is something here for everyone to enjoy.

So clear your calendar for May, and start checking out what’s on. You can visit the About Time website, or grab a copy of the 98 page printed program guide to work out what is on when, that you’d like to see. It is available from not only our shop at Modbury North, but also numerous libraries, societies, museums and other venues around the state.
