South Australia’s big history event (or should I say history MONTH), officially called the ‘About Time History Festival’ is being held throughout May 2012. From Victorian style funerals, to antique appraisals, even devonshire teas and discovering the meaning behind strained glass windows, and playing curator for a day, it’s all on in May!

The 13th Australasian Congress was on last week, and now that immediate backlog of work has been caught up, I figured it was time to sit and write my roundup of the event. The About Time: South Australia’s History Festival is on again. Continuing last years month-long format, it’s on 1-31 May 2012, and is being held at locations right around SA. There’s something for everyone from 100s of events to choose from. Everything from tours and heritage displays, to beginning your family history courses and vintage movies..

It’s February already, and as usual no-one knows how it got here so fast. One good thing about the year flying by is that it means that ‘Congress’ is not far away. For anyone who’s been involved in the Australasian genie field for a number of years, you’ll know that Congress is the BIG event held every three years. So here’s the details …

October 23 (this coming weekend) marks the start of Victoria’s History Week for 2011, and if you are a history or genealogy buff (which no doubt was scheduled on your calendar months ago) you’ll be loving the opportunity to spend the week travelling back in time, discovering Victoria’s amazing history.

The big genealogy event that happens in Australia and New Zealand is the Australasian Congress. Held every three years, this draws speakers, exhibitors and delegates from both countries and overseas. Bookings are now open for the 2012 Congress.

Calling all reli’s of Samuel Moss Solomon and his second wife Esther (nee Davis). You are invited to the GREAT SOLOMON FAMILY REUNION. This is not just a regular 1 day reunion. No, this is a 3 day extravaganza reunion!! Afterall it is nearly 200 years since the family arrived in Australia, so why not celebrate and meet the ‘extended’ family.

Unlock the Past’s Victorian Expo at Geelong in September, is coming up quick. This will be a MAJOR history-genealogy-heritage event for not only those in and around Geelong, but Victoria as a whole, and interstaters as well. For genealogy-minded people, this 2 day event will be something not to be missed.

Hamilton played host to the New Zealand Family History Fair in 2010. This was a huge success, as over a 1000 people enjoyed the many exhibits and seminars on offer, as well as the opportunity to take advantage of FREE access to websites. Now it’s on again, and bigger than last year!!

The end of July marks the beginning of National Family History Week, which runs from 29 July through until 8 August. National Family History Week is an initiative of AFFHO (Australasian Federation of Family History Organisations), as a way to promote and encourage people to trace their family history.

This is a call to all Genealogy, History & Heritage Vendors & Organisations. We’ve all been to events where you sign in, and get given your free goodie bag. The fun part is finding out all the stuff that’s included. The registration kit is an opportunity for vendors, authors and organisations in the genealogy or history community to get your product or services noticed by others …

The first of four Unlock the Past History and Genealogy Expo’s this year will be held in Coffs Harbour, New South Wales. This is going to be a major history-genealogy-heritage event for not only those in and around Coffs Harbour, but for much of New South Wales and Southern Queensland.
