Despite this important history, the Precinct has not been recognised as a National Heritage site. Australian Medical Pioneers … when Leeches, Enemas & Forks Were the Cure

 One of Australia’s medical pioneers, Dr Bell was born in Ireland in 1815 and studied medicine in London, prior to arriving in Australia in 1839. Dr Bell became aware of the difficulty experienced by colonists in obtaining medical assistance in outlying areas.
