There’s still 9 months and 15 days (291 days to be exact) until Congress 2018, but the hype and excitement surrounding it is already building.

Congress, the short name for the “15th Australasian Congress on Genealogy and Heraldry”. This genealogy event is held every three years, over a period of four days. That’s four days of non-stop genealogy talks, learning from some of world’s best, combined with a genealogy exhibition, and mingling with other genealogists. In essence it is the BIG event on the Australasian genealogy calendar.

Running from Friday 9 to Monday 12 March 2018, the next one is being held at the International Convention Centre, in Darling Harbour, Sydney, New South Wales, and is being hosted by the Society of Australian Genealogists. So be sure to write the event in your diary!

The Congress website states the following …

“With a theme of Bridging the Past and Future, Congress will be a forum for engaging new people in family history, building the skills and knowledge of participants, making the most of technology and promoting societies. The program consists of four days of lectures and workshops with a large exhibition component. There’ll be plenty of opportunity to catch up with old family history friends and meet new ones at a welcome function and conference dinner.  Our program will offer a variety of topics and formats to help both the beginner and more seasoned researcher.”

While the program hasn’t been released yet, the Congress team have recently announced the keynote speakers, and those who attend are certainly in for a treat:

– Paul Milner (USA)
– Paul Blake (England)
– Lisa Louise Cooke (USA), Genealogy Gems
– Judy G. Russell (USA), The Legal Genealogist

I’ve had the pleasure of hearing each one of them speak, and the wealth of knowledge between them is truly incredible. Combine that with numerous well known, local speakers and it’s going to be an awesome Congress.

The buzz that Congress creates is evident by the fact that people are already booking their hotel rooms … yes, 9 months ahead. So don’t leave it till just before, or you won’t get a room anywhere near the venue.

Now I know you’re excited about Congress, but you’ll have to sit tight for a little bit, as early-bird tickets haven’t even gone sale yet. But they’re due to do so at the end of May, so not long now … And the rate that this year is flying by, it means that Congress itself will come soon too!
