Back in July I started our “Can You Help?” series with a few queries that people had asked us. So as a way to “spread the word”, I did the blog post “Can You Help? #1” .
Now I have a few more queries, so once again … Can You Help?
BURIALS AT GERALDTON (NOW INNISFAIL), NORTH QUEENSLAND
My friend Judy Webster wrote about this on her blog, and has asked for the word to be spread. So spreading it is what I’m doing. The Cassowary Coast Libraries want to fill the gaps in their local burial registers, so are asking if you have a death certificate or other information on someone buriald at Geraldton (which is now called Innisfail), either in the cemetery or elsewhere. WWII QUERY
I found this query in Adelaide’s Sunday Mail, and thought I’d share it here. Paul firstly thanks everyone for their help with information relating the 2/48th Battalion of WWII, but the bad news is that his computer corrupted and he’s lost a lot of data. As such he would really appreciate hearing back from anyone who previously supplied information relating to this Battalion (and no doubt anyone else as well) as he’s now working on a pictorial history book. A MAP, OLD PHOTOS AND EMBROIDERY REQUEST
The Dublin History Group in South Australia put in a request for the first Can You Help? and now they have some more. Firstly they are wondering if anyone has a world map “like those that hung on school room walls until the mid-1950s” when the four schools in the area closed. And another request relates to photographs of the Wild Horse Plains Institute (including functions that were held there), as well as tennis, cricket and football teams from the area. And they would love to find a photograph of the Fighting Forces Comfort Fund Embroidery that used to hang in the Institute, as well as any information on the CWA Dublin Branch. SUBMIT YOUR STORIES FOR ANZAC CENTENARY PROJECT
Genealogy SA’s Anzac Centenary Project is now underway, and you can find full details about it on their website. If you have a family member who served in World War 1 who enlisted in South Australia, and you think there is a good story in what the family went through, the Society would be delighted to hear from you. Thanks for spreading the word about the appeal for details of Geraldton (Innisfail) burials. The librarian who spoke to me will be amazed at how many people we can reach through social media!
