The end of July marks the beginning of National Family History Week, which runs from 29 Jul through until 8 August.

National Family History Week is an initiative of AFFHO (Australasian Federation of Family History Organisations), as a way to promote and encourage people to trace their family history. With family history being the second biggest subject looked at on the web, there are over 250,000 Australians who are members of family history related organisations so the week has broad appeal across Australia.

With more than 100 events happening around the country, it’s a great opportunity to begin exploring your family history if you haven’t yet got around to it, or if you are a seasoned genie, to encourage your friends to do so. There will be talks on a range of family history topics and opportunities to check out the family history resources from many archives offices, your local library or genealogical society as well.

You can view all of the events that are on during National Family History Week, on their website: http://www.familyhistoryweek.org.au.

And you can also keep up with their latest news, by following them on Facebook.
